Team Singapore’s swimmers and shuttlers competing in the SEA Games in Laos enjoyed added support (pictured) from the stands on Friday (Dec 11), thanks to 25 undergraduates from the National University of Singapore.
Community Service
The students were in Vientiane that day as they prepared to head out to a village called Ponsong. They are on a 21-day Community Involvement Programme trip to help build roads and spend time with villagers.
Swimmers & Shuttlers
One of them, Paul Lim Ziwei, explained how they came to be part of the "TS Support Group". He said, "We bumped into one of the supporters for Team Singapore at a mall and he invited us to join him in supporting our athletes." Another member of the group Jessica Ker added,"Everyone was for the idea. So we decided to come down as a group to cheer for the swimmers and shuttlers".
Good Day
As it turned out, it was a good day for the Team Singapore athletes as the badminton players defeated Vietnam in the quarter finals of the Men's Team event while the swimmers delivered five gold medals on the opening day of the swimming competition.
