Team Singapore's athletes go full swing at the SEA Games competition in Laos today (Dec 10) following last night's opening ceremony, with medals expected in sports like Swimming, Shooting and Table Tennis.
Swimming
In the pool, watch out for Quah Ting Wen (pictured) and Amanda Lim in the Women's 100m Freestyle. Shana Lim and Tao Li will feature in the Women's 200m Backstroke. All four are among the hot favourites for medals. Other swimmers in action include Zach Ong and Rainer Ng in the Men's 200m Backstroke, Koh Ting Ting and Koh Hui Yu in the Women's 200m Individual Medley, and Pang Sheng Jun and Nicholas Ho in the Men's 400m Individual Medley. The 4x200m Freestyle Relays are also worth watching as Singapore is gunning for gold, especially in the women's race.
Shooting & Table Tennis
In Shooting, among the athletes aiming for top honours are Ong Jun Hong, Jonathan Koh and Zhang Jin in the Men's 10m Air Rifle. The Women's 10m Air Rifle team of Aqilah Sudhir, Haw Siew Peng and Goh Jia Yi are also hoping to make an impact. In Table Tennis, the semi-finals and finals of the men's and women's team events will get underway. Paddlers like Feng Tianwei and Gao Ning are expected to lead us to gold.
Cuesports, Taekwondo, Football
In cuesports, Peter Gilchrist and Lim Chun Kiat aim to shine in the Men's English Billiards Doubles. Taekwondo exponent Jacqueline Quek will take part in the Women's Middle Weight event while the Young Lions are hoping for a win over Laos in their quest for a football medal.
