Singapore's swimmers (pictured) won four gold medals on the third day of competition in the pool with inspirational performances while our paddlers won semi-final matches in the mixed doubles to ensure us the gold and silver.
Swimming
In the pool, Tao Li first won gold in the 100m Backstroke, clocking 1:02.96 to beat compatriot Shana Lim (1:03.56) and Malaysia's Chui Lai Kwan (1:03.91). The Beijing Olympic Games finalist then won her second gold of the night when she clinched the Women's 100m Butterfly title in a time of 59.24 secs. Lynette Lim showed superb form and fighting spirit as she bounced back from her narrow defeat by Malaysia's Khoo Cai Lin in the 400m Freestyle last night to win the 800m Freestyle gold in an impressive time of 8:35.41. The Men's 4x100m Freestyle Relay team of Russell Ong, Joshua Lim, Danny Yeo and Zach Ong then combined well to win gold with a time of 3:23.22. Other Team Singapore medals came in the Men's 100m Backstroke as Rainer Ng (56.73 secs) and Zach Ong (56.89) earned silver and bronze respectively behind Indonesian winner Glenn Victor (56.42).
Other Sports
In Table Tennis, Gao Ning & Feng Tianwei and Yang Zi & Wang Yuegu won their semi-finals in the mixed doubles. In Badminton, Singapore won bronzes through the women's and men's teams who both lost in the semi-finals. The men were defeated 0-3 by Malaysia while the women fell by the same margin to Indonesia. In Shooting, the trio of Ong Jun Hong, Kasmijian Kijin and Zhang Jin clinched bronze in the men's 50 Metres Air Rifle Prone event. Other bronzes came from Chan Keng Kwang and Toh Lian Han in cue sports (Men's 9 Ball Pool Doubles) and Jason Tan in Taekwando (Fin Weight category).
