The Gold Rush slowed down but Team Singapore's athletes, led by the shooters (pictured) and swimmers, continued to deliver in style on Friday (Dec 11) as the SEA Games competition continue in Vientiane.

Shooting Gold

In shooting, the trio of Gai Bin, Nigel Lim and Poh Lip Meng shot a combined total of 1,719 in the Men's 10m Air Pistol 60 Shots event to clinch the team title. Vietnam (1,710) was second while Thailand (1,696) came in third. The shooters have now won four gold medals.

Relay Girls

In the pool, Mylene Ong, Amanda Lim, Lynette Lim and Quah Ting Wen combined well to win the Women's 4x100m Freestyle Relay in a time of 3:45.73. In the process, they beat Thailand (3:48.09) and Malaysia (3:51.40). This was our only win following the five golds we won the day before.

More Medals

But, reflecting the team's depth, we have collected our fair share of medals. In the Men's 100m Freestyle, Russell Ong came in third in a time of 51.05 secs, behind Malaysia's Daniel Bego (50.16) and Philippines' Charles Walker (50.96). Joshua Lim also did well with his bronze in the Men's 200m Individual Medley. He clocked 2:05.33. The gold went to Philippines' Miguel Molina (2:03.68) while Thailand's Ketin Nuttapong (2:04.17) claimed the silver. In the Women's 100m Breaststroke, Roanne Ho took the silver in 1:12.54, sandwiched between two Malaysians, Siow Yi Ting (1:09.82) and Erika Kong (1:13.18).  In the Women's 400m Freestyle, Malaysia again deprived us of gold as Khoo Cai Lin (4:10.75) just edged out Lynette Lim (4:11.24) while Quah Ting Wen (4:17.85) had to settle for bronze.
