The focus may be on the athletes as they gear up for the coming SEA Games in Laos. But off the court and outside the pool, there is plenty of action too as Team Singapore supporters warm up for the competition ahead.
Well Wishing Roadshow
For instance, a well wishing roadshow (pix) was held at Bugis Junction on Saturday. The highlight was the selection of winners for a pair of travel package to Laos. Then there was the Canon SEA Games Photo Contest which offered winners attractive prizes, including a six-day trip to Laos where they can snap pictures of the sporting action there. Also a hit was the SEA Games Readers' Contest jointly organised by The Straits Times and the Singapore Sports Council.
Strong Support
For the winners, winning means an opportunity to support Team Singapore athletes like swimmer Quah Ting Wen, discus thrower James Wong and shooter Jasmine Ser. For organisers, the good response to the various contests is a reflection of the strong support Singaporeans give to our athletes, especially when there are great prizes to be won. For the athletes, the presence of supporters from home will only spur them on to do well in Laos.
