X'mas in the air with Team Singapore Shuttlers

As part of Team Singapore Supports, our national Shuttlers proudly took time off from trainings to give special needy children a memorable experience by taking them on a Singapore Flyer ride and teaching them how to play simple Badminton. These children are part of the Asian Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA) who participated in a charity event organized by some volunteers in conjunction with Christmas. The Shuttlers included Shinta Mulia Sari, Yao Lei, Derek Wong, Fu Mingtian , Gu Juan and Ashton Chen. For the first time, these athletes provided a platform for the special needed children a chance to learn and spar with them.  

SEA Games Gold Medalist, Fu Ming Tian said, “We rarely get opportunities such as these because we are so busy with trainings and competitions, but it was a really meaningful day for me.”

In addition, these SEA Games Medalists were also given a chance to pair up with the Special Olympics Singapore (SPOS) athletes for a demonstration match at Singapore Badminton Hall during Li-Ning Youth International Series. To spread the Christmas joy, the friendly matches ended with Team Singapore Shuttlers presenting a gift to the Special Olympians.
