Singapore's paddlers completed a clean sweep of the gold medals with wins in the men’s and women’s singles events while their team mates in swimming continued their winning ways on Day 5 (Nov 16) of the SEA Games in Indonesia.
Table Tennis
At the GMSB Kuningan Sports Hall A in Jakarta, Gao Ning and Feng Tianwei clinched golds number four and five in the men's and women's singles respectively. And they did so by beating fellow Singaporeans. Gao cruised to a 4-0 (11-6, 11-9, 12-10, 11-8) win over Yang Zi while Feng was too good for debutante Isabelle Li as she won 4-0 (11-3, 11-4, 11-9, 11-5). Earlier in the competition, Singapore had taken the men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles titles.
Swimming
Over at the Jakabaring Aquatic Centre in Palembang, Tao Li won her third individual gold medal when she powered home to win the women’s 100m back in 1:02.11. There was more success for the swim team when the men’s 4x200 free relay team of Jeremy Kevin Mathews, Clement Lim, Teo Zhen Ren and Danny Yeo clinched gold in 7:31.98. Danny also won a silver in the men’s 100m free, clocking 50.98 secs. Other swimmers who did well tonight included Mylene Ong (silver in the women’s 100m free in 56.71 secs), Amanda Lim (bronze in the women’s 100m free in 56.73 secs), Samantha Yeo (bronze in the women’s 200m breast in 2:37.12) and Quah Zheng Wen (bronze in the men’s 50m back in 26.38 secs).
