In Badminton, you need speed, power and skill. Some may be born with it, but like me, many aren’t. I was overjoyed when I got into my CCA team in Secondary 1. To prove I deserved my spot against the able-bodied players, I trained harder than ever. It took me two years before I broke into the main team to represent my school. Before I knew it, I found myself being Singapore’s first-ever shuttler at the ASEAN Para Games in 2008 - but I lost in that final. This made me dig deeper to push my own limits further. A year later, I got a shot at redemption. This time, I told myself that all the years of training have led to this moment. I overcame my opponent and won Singapore’s first-ever gold medal at the ASEAN Para Games. So whether in sports or in life, I believe that perseverance always pays off in the end.
Perseverance.
That’s the Singapore Spirit I’m taking to the Games!
