Team Singapore’s bowlers, who began action today, started on a golden note while the swimmers continued their winning ways as the SEA Games competition in Indonesia entered Day 4 (Nov 15).
Narrow Win
At the Jaya Ancol Bowling Centre in Jakarta, Cherie Tan narrowly won the women's singles title. She scored a total of 1,286 pinfalls to just edge out Malaysia’s Sin Li Jane (1,284). Team mate Jazreel Tan (1,283) clinched the bronze.
Success In The Pool
Over at the Jakabaring Aquatics Centre, Joseph Schooling led the way with gold in the men’s 200m fly. His time of 1:56.67 was not only a new SEA Games record. It also earned him qualification for the 2012 London Olympics. Team mate Quah Zheng Wen (2:00.24) collected the bronze. There was more success for Singapore in the women’s 50m free where Amanda Lim (25.77 secs) and Mylene Ong (25.89) achieved an impressive one-two finish. The two girls – together with Tao Li and Koh Hui Yu - were also part of the women’s 4x100m free relay team which won gold in a time of 3:48.38. Other swimmers who did well included Jeremy Kevin Matthews (bronze in the men’s 400m free in a time of 3:58.48) and Zach Ong (bronze in the men’s 100m back in a time of 56.96).
