"I took up swimming when I was six to alleviate the sheer boredom of waiting for my elder sister Elaine to finish her swimming training. I discovered that distance swimming was my strength when I was placed 4th in the 500-yards freestyle for 11/12 year olds at the Southern California Junior Olympics. The next year I broke three 12 & Under distance freestyle records in Southern California. I first represented Singapore in 2007 at the FINA World Championship at 15. I feel a strong sense of camaraderie with the Singapore Team and love hanging out with them."
