Team Singapore
RECORDS FALL IN POOL
(Swimmers Set National Age-Group Records)
By Joshua Tan
Going by recent performances, Singapore's young swimmers are in top form, with several new national age-group records to their credit. Leading the way in the Under-14 age group are Ng Tze Kang for the boys and Shana Lim (pix) for the girls.

Impressive Times

Tze Kang set new marks in the 100m fly (59.85 secs) and 200m fly (2:09.95) while Shana made her mark in the
50m back (30.92), 100m back (1:07.44) and 50m fly (29.05).

The times are impressive for swimmers their age. If properly groomed, they certainly have what it takes to go to SEA Games level and perhaps even beyond.

For instance, Shana's time of 1:07.44 in the 100m back already compares favourably with Lynette Ng, who has taken part in many international meets.

Other Marks

Not to be outdone, other U-14 swimmers have also been making an impact. They include Roanne Ho in the girls' 50m breast (33.82) and Rainer Ng in the boys' 100m back (1:02.66).

The girls' 4x100m medley relay team of Shana, Roanne, Quah Ting Wen and Amanda Lim also set a new record with their time of

4:31.74.

In the Under-17 age-group, Andrew Lim (30.18 in the boys' 50m breast) and Nicholas Tan (26.17 in the boys' 50m fly) are among the newly-minted record holders. Ting Wen, Mylene Ong, Goh Wan Ting and Ho Shu Yong also set a new mark in the girls' 4x200m free relay (8:45.44).
