Mr Teo Ser Luck Inspired by Athletes of the 4th ASEAN Para Games
24 January 2008, Nakhon Ratchasima

ASEAN Para Games debutant, shuttler Tay Wei Ming blazed his way to the final of the Badminton Men's Singles. In a fruitful day for Singapore Athletics, Nazariah Binte Amadini and Dr William Tan won Singapore two Silver Medals.

Mr Teo Ser Luck, Parliamentary Secretary (MCYS) flew into Korat for a special visit and managed to join Team Singapore for dinner at the Athletes' Village. Mr Teo had these words of encouragement for all the athletes, " I'm really proud of all of you. You have made it this far to come here and represent Singapore. You have inspired me and I hope to do more for you."

In the Women-200m (T36) final, Nazariah Binte Amadini raced her way to the Silver with the timing of 41.23 seconds. This is Nazariah's second medal after her Silver Medal performance in the Women-100m (T36).

The other Silver Medal came from Dr William Tan in the Men-400m (T53) with the timing of 1 minute 6.74 seconds. It is Dr Tan's second medal after yesterday's Bronze Medal in the Men-200m (T53).

Nazariah Binte Amadini and Dr William Tan at 36 and 50 years old respectively, set shining examples of model athletes by each winning 2 medals at the 4th ASEAN Para Games. They proved that sports excellence is not only for the young but for all ages with the correct attitude and commitment.

ASEAN Para Games debutant, Tay Wei Ming reached the final of the Badminton Men's Singles by defeating Mohammad Zambri Bin Yusof of Malaysia in straight sets, 21-18, 21-15. Tay overcame his tendency for unforced errors in the first set by rallying from behind to win the set. From there, he did not look back and led the 2nd set from start to finish with a display of speed and precision. He took the set with a flurry of baseline shots that his opponent had no answer to. The final of the Men's Singles will be played tomorrow.

Team Singapore's medal tally stands at 3 Golds, 6 Silvers and 3 Bronzes.
