Tay Clinches Badminton Silver for Singapore
25 January 2008

Vongchavalitkul University, Nakhon Ratchasima

Badminton rising star Tay Wei Ming won the Silver Medal for Singapore today in the final of the Men's Singles (U4) after he fell to Vietnam with a score of 21-16, 21-19.

In a keenly contested final, Tay was up against Nguyen Van Tai from Vietnam. It was a rematch for the 2 shuttlers who met previously during the preliminary rounds, when Nguyen Van overcame Tay in three sets in a tight match that ended 15-21, 21-19, 21-19.

This was the perfect opportunity for the 19 year old Tay to exact revenge on his veteran opponent. That set the perfect stage for the clash between youth and experience.

Both athletes made their fair share of unforced errors and finally it was the veteran from Vietnam who managed to clinch the gold using two sets.
