Team Singapore
REACHING OUT
(Team Singapore Athletes Support JC Project)
By Lynn Koh
Team Singapore athletes like Kendrick Lee (badminton), Rena Teng (bowling), Sng Juwei (swimming) and Andrew Kam (tennis, pix) may have tight schedules but they still made it a point to turn up for a networking session on Friday (Feb 11) with a group of JC students whom they mentor as part of a sports scholarship project.

Gathering Of Athletes

Other athletes/mentors at the gathering held at Mandarin Gardens included Marc Lim (tennis), Teu Koon Kiat (track & field) and Tan Wearn Haw (sailing). Apart from them, former national athletes like Roger Koa (water skiing) and Hoong Hui Min (triathlon) were present as well.

International Experience

In all, it was an opportunity for the Temasek JC Sports Scholars - who included national athletes like Cheng Jing Hean (triathlon) and Lee Wei Ping (tennis) - to learn from the experienced Team Singapore athletes. Juwei, for instance, has been to the Sydney Olympics while Kendrick has taken part in many international competitions in countries like US, UK and South Africa.

Fuelling Passion

When sharing on the theme "Fuelling Your Passion", one of the mentors Poh Li San gave insights into the work she did to help victims of the December 2004 tsunami. The other mentors, including adventure racer Esther Tan, gave updates of themselves while the young scholars listened intently. They were obviously keen to learn from the paths the more experienced athletes have taken.
