Team Singapore
MOMENTUM CONTINUES
(Young Bowlers & Basketball Players Shine)
By Joshua Tan

Singapore's young bowlers and basketball players did well at recent competitions, continuing the momentum set by our athletes at the Asian Games in Doha.

Clean Sweep

At the 7th Milo International Junior All Stars Championships in Kuala Lumpur, keglers from the Singapore Sports School took the top five Boys' Under-15 Masters places. Champion Mark Wong led the way with an eight-game total of 1,816. He was followed by Mike Loh, Christopher Hwang, Howard Saw and Jonathan Ang.
Our girls did not enjoy such a clean sweep but, in the Girls' U-15 Masters, Edlyn Kwok of Singapore Sports School finished third with her score of 1,535, behind Hurul Ainul of Negri Sembilan (1,612) and Jessica F. of Indonesia (1,571).

Creditable Performances

In basketball, our national Under-20 players performed creditably at the Fiba Asia Young Women Championship held at ITE College East. Among other things, they edged out Uzbekistan 77-71, Sri Lanka 82-53 and Indonesia 69-47.

Showing Promise

The performances of these youths continues our momentum at the Asian Games where the likes of young athletes such as swimmer Tao Li, sailors Colin Cheng and Maximilian Soh and shooters Jasmine Ser, Adrienne Ser and Vanessa Yong (pix) showed promise with their medals.
