GOOD JOB
(TS Athletes Shine In Athletics, Fencing, Cuesports)
By Joshua Tan
Team Singapore athletes in sports like athletics, fencing and cuesports have put in respectable performances in recent competitions, including triple jumper Stefan Tseng's impressive fourth spot at the World Youth Championships in the Czech city of Ostrava.
Athletics
The 17-year-old achieved a jump of 15.54m, behind America's Christian Taylor (15.98m) and Russia's Aleksey Fedorov (15.59m) and Gennadiy Chudinov (15.54m). Earlier, Stefan, a Singapore Sports School student, jumped 15.69m to set a new national mark.
Fencing
In fencing, our athletes finished second in the overall standings at the Fencing Singapore International held here, winning two golds, two silvers and five bronzes behind South Korea's 6-3-4. In all, the event attracted teams from 14 countries.
Cuesports
In cuesports, Bernard Tey (pix) is in eighth spot with 100 points at this year's Asian 9-Ball Tour. Though top players like Taiwan's Yang Ching-shun and Chang Jung-lin have been dominating the competition after four legs, the Singaporean has been doing well. But he will have to be at his best to make further progress as only the top 10 players in the Tour rankings qualify for the Grand Finals after the fifth leg in Shanghai in August.
