WINNING MOOD
Team Singapore's Athletes Head For SEA Games In Thailand
By Al R Dizon & Tay Jiun Lin

Singapore is already in a winning mood, judging by the golden harvest of the shooting team in Bangkok, but Team Singapore chef de mission Low Teo Ping reckons the mood should be sustained.

Dressing the rooms

And to sustain this mood, he announced that TS will be awarding "medals" to athletes who can do up their rooms in the Games Village with decorations that enhance their winning mood. "On your arrival at the Games Village, look for anything that will help you do whatever is necessary to give your room that extra ambience that will give you that mood," he told the athletes at the official send-off for athletes this yesterday morning at Changi Airport's Terminal 2. "We'll go around the Village, select the best decorated room, and announce the winners on Thursday."

Hair Spray

But the silat team has had already pre-empted Mr Low. Three of its female exponents have had already sprayed their hair in red and gold. "Red for Singapore, gold for gold medals," said Nur As'ashikeen Amran, who is competing in the Class A division for women. "Four golds, to be exact," she added. Nevertheless, she said they will still decorate their rooms. The silat exponents also made their way to the immigration checkpoint draped in the Singapore flag.

Golden Forecast

In his send-off message, Mr Low also enjoined the athletes to achieve or even surpass their personal bests. "Do your personal bests, and winning will take care of itself," he said. He repeated his earlier forecast of between 35-45 gold medals for Singapore, despite the gold rush by the shooters in Bangkok which exceeded expectations. "Hopefully, the rest of Team Singapore will pick it up from there and be in the winning mood enough to perform beyond expectations," he said.
