RAdm Teo Offers Advice In Send-Off Message

By Al R Dizon & Tay Jiun Lin Defence minister Teo Chee Hean this morning encouraged Team Singapore athletes to bring home glory for themselves and for the nation, perform their personal bests, make friends and always embody the Singapore spirit as they don the national colours at the 24th SEA Games in Thailand. Glory To Nation "Bring home glory to yourself and to the nation," the minister told the bulk of Team Singapore athletes, coaches and officials who departed at Changi Airport early this yesterday morning. "It doesn?t matter whether you bring home a medal or not. Do your country proud by doing your best with honour and dignity." He also asked the athletes to show off the true Singapore spirit - "that of never giving up when faced with seemingly insurmountable odds and hardships." He added, "Show the region and the world what Singapore is all about." But when the push comes to shove, what really matters, he stressed, is what happens on the field. "There may be bad calls, questionable judgements. But respect the officials always, and move on." TS 420 Team Singapore, comprising 420 athletes, is participating in 35 disciplines. The Games, mainly held in Korat with some events in Bangkok and Chonburi (Pattaya), will officially begin on 6 December. Leading the Singapore team are chef de mission Low Teo Ping as well as asst chefs de mission Abdul Rahman Hassan, Bervyn Lee and Mahipal Singh
