LEADING THE WAY
(Bowling's Cherie Tan & Cuesports' Peter Gilchrist Aim For Success)
Bowling's Cherie Tan and cuesports' Peter Gilchrist are expected to lead the way as Singapore aims for success at the Asian Youth Bowling Championships in Beijing and the World Billiards Championships here respectively.
Stiff Competition
The other Singapore bowlers who will don national colours in the Chinese capital this month are Mark Wong, Eugene Low, Benjamin Lim, Derek Chan, Daphne Tan, Sabrina Lim and Amanda Ng. They will face stiff competition from countries like South Korea, Qatar and Malaysia.
Wealth Of Experience
Cherie, an NUS undergraduate, may be just 19. But she has a wealth of experience. Among other things, she has won silver in the singles and doubles events at the World Youth Championships and bronze in the team event at the Asian Games.
Big Names
Meanwhile, Peter Gilchrist, 39, will be hoping to continue his winning ways. In June, he claimed the Asian and European titles in Doha and Ireland respectively. In Singapore, he will be joined by team mates Glenn Yeo and Alan Puan. Big names expected at the event in September include India's Pankaj Advani and Geet Sethi.
