Call it if you will the "Eileen Effect". We are referring to the ability of some Team Singapore athletes to move comfortably from sport to sport, with figure skater Alexandria Wong (pix) the latest to follow the example of gymnast-diver-hurdler Eileen Chai.

Recent Highs

Alexandria recently won the PreNovice Ladies title at the National Figure Skating Championships. She was also placed a respectable fourth in the C Division race of the National Inter-School Cross Country Championships held at Turf City. The 13 year-old Sec 2 student from Methodist Girls' School was cmpeting in a field of some 280 runners. She only took up cross country running when she was accepted into MGS.

No Easy Task

Training for two major events at the same time hasn't been easy. However, she is thrilled with her results in both cross country and figure skating. Not only did she win the PreNovice title at the Figure Skating Championships, she also recorded the highest score at the competition.

Different Sports

Other athletes who have shown this flair for handling different sports include fencer-triathlete Nicholas Fang, bowler-biker Andrew Fang and runner-sailor-rower Naomi Tan.
