Team Singapore
HOLDING THE FORT
(Athletes Shine In Badminton, Bowling, Sailing)
By Joshua Tan

Young athletes are continuing to hold the fort for Team Singapore, with the likes of shuttlers Ashton Chen and Kendrick Lee, bowler Gregory Gan and our sailors (pix) leading the way in recent weeks.

Badminton

Ashton, for instance, shone at the Cheers Asian Satellite tournament, stunning Malaysia's former world No1 Roslin Hashim to reach the semi-finals. Though he lost to another Malaysian Chan Kwong Beng eventually, his 21-15, 21-18 win over Roslin showed his great promise. On his part, Kendrick has been putting up consistent performances to establish himself as a worthy successor to Ronald Susilo.

Bowling

In bowling,Gregory clinched two titles at the National Age Group Championships at Orchid Bowl. The Raffles Institution Secondary 3 student won the boys' Under-17 Masters title and the Under-22 crown.

Sailing

As for the sailors, they have been doing well in recent events. Some of them - like Maximillian Soh, Koh Seng Leong and Teo Wee Chin - are setting their sights on qualifying for next year's Olympics. Others are hoping to qualify for the SEA Games in Thailand at the end of the year, starting with the National 420 Championships last month (June).
