Team Singapore
MATCHING THE BEST
(Bowler Remy Ong & Shooter Jasmine Ser Shine In World Events)
By Jason Cai

Riding on their success at last year's Asian Games in Doha where they won medals, bowler Remy Ong and shooter Jasmine Ser (pix, with team mates) have been taking things a step further with some world class performances.

Fine Showing

For example, Remy finished ninth at the World Ranking Masters with a three-day total of 5,360 in Lake Wales, Florida. Though he narrowly missed the quarter finals, he had the distinction of being the only Asian to finish in the top 10. Leading the field was Finland's Osku Palermaa (5,798). The good performance by Remy came on the heels of his fine showing at the World Tenpin Masters in England where he just missed out on the final by a single pinfall.

Top Form

Meanwhile, young Jasmine showed top form at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Bangkok. She fired 396 out of a possible 400 targets to finish a creditable 10th in the women's 10m air rifle. In all, there were more than 100 competitors, including top names like Germany's Barbara Lechner and China's Zhao Yinghui.

Best Performance

Though she missed the eight-woman final on a countback, Jamsine must surely take pride in her performance. The result was her best in the World Cup series. Earlier, she scored 394 points to finish 21st among more than 90 shooters in Fort Benning, USA, and 390 points to finish 54th among 70 over shooters in Sydney, Australia.
